Excerpt
"One of the fundamental principles of traditional Oriental medicine is the original unity of all of creation in the oneness of the Dao. I like to think of this image as being mirrored in the history of the development of traditional Oriental medicine itself - so that from the myriad theories and styles that constitute today's "tradition", we can trace our way back in time to a common root. This common root is usually taken to be the two parts of the book called the Huangdi Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic). What I propose to do in this discussion is to make a case for there being a still deeper root in the I Jing (Classis of Changes). This is not merely a drab question of ancient history, but a living one that can help us understand some of the puzzling branches that have developed on the tree of traditional Oriental medicine."
